Hi there!
My name is Kelly Dorman and I draw the pictures that help bring the characters of Charlie Horse Publishing to life. I am a self-taught artist, photographer and designer who resides in a small town in upstate New York. I own and operate TwinMaples Design, a place for my arts, crafts and photography to call home.
As an artist I create a variety of works. I love to do fantasy art featuring mythical creatures like fairies and elves. I enjoy doing cartoons and illustrations, especially those featuring animals. I also occasionally indulge in a bit of folk art every now and then - there's just something about its simplicity that draws me back time and again.
I work in all kinds of mediums. My favorites are watercolors and colored pencil, but I'm not shy around acrylics and even try my hand at computer generated/edited pieces as well.
As a photographer I love to capture images in nature, particularly those from the wilderness around me. Wildflowers are some of my favorite subjects, but the flowers in my garden get their fair share of attention as well. I also love capturing the landscapes of the Adirondack Mountains. I try to spend my summers hiking through the Adirondack Park and to the top of its many mountains in order to catch some breath taking views.
As a designer I have created a number of original folk art/primitive styled sewing patterns and crafts. I have found very few feelings to compare with that of being able to take an idea from my head, drawing it on paper and then turn it into a three-dimensional piece. Along with designing and selling the patterns, I also teach classes at the Gloversville Sewing Center, New York where people come to learn how to make their own versions of my crafts.
I am delighted to be a part of the Charlie the Hobby Horse Hero and Fred the Heavy Horse Hero stories. Illustrating children's stories has been a dream of mine for a few years now and I would like to thank Tony Brown and Charlie Horse Publishing for giving me this opportunity.
